Ingredients

  • 1 lb (450 g) green beans, trimmed
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 2 tsp soy sauce
  • 2 tsp homemade chili oil optional

Method

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Step 1: Prep the Green Beans
Start by thoroughly patting the green beans dry with paper towels. Removing excess moisture is key to achieving that beautiful blister and char in the air fryer. Preheat your air fryer to 400°F (200°C) . For easier cleanup, you can line the air fryer tray with parchment paper this step is entirely optional.
    Step 2: Season and Arrange
Place the trimmed green beans in a large mixing bowl. Drizzle with the olive oil and sprinkle with salt. Toss well until every bean is lightly coated. Spread the green beans onto the air fryer tray in a single layer, making sure they overlap as little as possible. If your air fryer basket is small, cook them in two separate batches to avoid overcrowding.
Step 3: First Air Fry Cycle
Air fry at 400°F (200°C) for 4 to 5 minutes. The green beans are ready for the next step when they become blistered and charred on the surface but still hold their shape. they should not have turned soft or limp.
    Step 4: Add the Aromatics
Carefully remove the air fryer tray. If you cooked in batches, add the first batch of blistered green beans back onto the tray. Scatter over the minced garlic, soy sauce, and chili oil (if using). Toss everything together a few times to coat the beans evenly. Then, rearrange the green beans so they are spread out evenly with minimal overlap.
Step 5: Final Air Fry Cycle
Return the tray to the air fryer and cook for another 2 to 3 minutes. This final blast allows the garlic to become fragrant and the sauce to cling to the beans. Cook until the green beans have reached your desired level of tenderness.
    Step 6: Serve and Enjoy
Transfer the garlic green beans to a serving plate and serve immediately while hot. They make a wonderful side dish alongside rice, grilled proteins, or your favorite main course.
